The Ford Aerostar minivan was sold both as a passenger van and as a cargo van. This made it great for both personal and commercial use. It had the option of two different body lengths, as well as both rear wheel drive and all wheel drive. Despite its size, the Ford Aerostar was actually a pretty aerodynamic vehicle. It was designed to resemble the Ford Taurus and had a .37 coefficient of drag, which was excellent for a van that could tow 5,000 pounds. It was also built with lightweight materials in the body such as plastic bumpers, fuel tank, rear door and hood. The drive shaft, axles and wheels were aluminum. The front engine layout gave drivers added safety; the engine was a 2.3 liter four cylinder. The van had a five speed manual transmission, with the option of a four speed automatic transmission. The Ford Aerostar was discontinued in 1997.
