The first generation Nissan 240SX replaced the Nissan 200SX in 1988 as Nissan’s two-door compact sports car. There are two clear generations of the Nissan 240S: the S13, which ran from 1989 to 1994, and the S14, which ran from 1995 to 1998. The S13 model of Nissan 240SX came with rear-wheel drive standard, with either a hatchback or coupe body style, and a distinctive sloped front and pop-up headlights. In 1994 the only Nissan 240SX for that model year was a special edition convertible. In 1994, the second generation S14 Nissan 240SX was launched with both the hatchback and convertible options discontinued, leaving only the coupe. Track width of the coupe was increased and the pop-up headlights were changed to fixed lamps, so there was a big design overhaul for the cars second generation. The Nissan 240SX was then updated again receiving several aesthetic adjustments for the 1997 model before production finished in 1998.
